Obituary

Norma Jean Tanner, 87, of Carrier Mills, IL died Wednesday July 8, 2026 at 2:30 pm at Harrisburg Medical Center surrounded by her family. Funeral services will be held Monday July 13, 2026 at 11 am at Felty Funeral Home in Carrier Mills, IL. Visitation will be held Monday after 9 am until service time.  Reverend Jerry Wells will officiate. Burial will be in Salem Cemetery in Carrier Mills, IL.

Jean was born on January 5, 1939 in Paulton, IL to the late James William and Barbara Helen (Woolard) Parks.

She married Wayne Tanner on June 9, 1953  and he preceded in death on March 14, 2011.

Jean was a member of the Carrier Mills Social Brethren Church for many years. She worked at the Harrisburg Walmart until her retirement. One of Jean's biggest love was her cats. Jean never met a stray cat or kitten that she wouldn't take in and raise, that is why she was known as "The Cat Lady".

Jean is survived by her 3 Granddaughters: Jennifer (Bill) Naas of Shawneetown, IL; Tara (Robbie) Hadley of Carrier Mills, IL and Stephanie (Rick) Milligan of Carrier Mills, IL; 3 Great grandchildren: Colton (Shelby) Wolaver; Hayleigh (Zach) Vinson and Robbie Hadley; Great great grandchild: Cohen Vinson; Son In Law: Jim Swan; Sister In Law: Connie Tite and Brother In Law: Melvin Yates.

Jean was preceded in death by her Parents; Husband: Wayne Tanner; Daughter: Sheryel Swan and Sister: Judy Yates.
