Late in the evening on Sunday June 28th, 2026 in Carbondale, IL Louis Hayes Phillips, 77, due to complications from having surgery for an aortic aneurysm left us to be with the Lord. He was known to all as Hayes. He was a folk artist extraordinaire, a love for wood carving and painting that was loved by all, nationwide. A friendly smile and a warm heart he offered to all, he was truly one in a million.
He was born on November 27, 1948 in Lorain, OH to the late Hayes Junior and Ramona (Pauley) Phillips.
He was survived by a Son: Brian Hayes Phillips of Carpentersville, IL; 2 Granddaughters: Mary Rose Phillips and Rihannon Hope Phillips both of Crystal Lake, IL; Sister: Beverly (Steve) Chabrecek of Carrier Mills, IL; 2 Brothers: Timothy McCoy of ST. Paul, MN and Michael McCoy of Washington, OH; Aunts: Barbara Muncy, Dottie Thompson, Elpha Pauley and Uncle Ivan Pauley.
Memorial graveside services will be held Sunday July 5, 2026 at 2 PM at Little Saline Cemetery in Stonefort, IL. There will be no visitation, all friends should go directly to the cemetery. Reverend Ownly Williams will officiate. Felty Funeral Home in Carrier Mills, IL is assisting the family with the details.
