Elijah Matthews Taborn-Scott, of Carrier Mills, IL born March 17, 1996, in Carbondale, Illinois, passed away at his residence on Tuesday, March 31, 2026.
Elijah is survived by his parents, Benjamin Scott of Harrisburg, IL and Cynthia Taborn of Carrier Mills, IL; his children, Ameliah Taborn-Scott and Elijah Taborn-Scott, both of Marion, Illinois, and Violet German Taborn of Cave-in-Rock, Illinois. He also leaves behind his brother, Roman Taborn of Carrier Mills, Illinois, and his cherished grandmothers, Nona Taborn of Carrier Mills and Cynthia Hodge of Harrisburg, Illinois. Among his extended family are his aunt Aleccia Taborn and uncle Ricky Taborn of Carrier Mills and his special cousins: Ethan and Dathan Taborn, Andrea, Toni, Rachel, and Josh Cowper, Kenneth Riley of Carbondale, Charvon Taborn, and Shannon Bowens. These relationships were a vital part of his life, forming a supportive and loving community that meant the world to him.
Elijah was preceded in death by Trinity Taborn-Scott, his daughter, and his grandfathers, Rick Taborn and Eddie Scott, who preceded him in death.
Elijah Matthews Taborn Scott will be remembered as a man whose zest for life was as remarkable as his deep devotion to family and the many passions that shaped his journey. Elijah embraced every day with energy and purpose, finding happiness in basketball, weightlifting, and playing Halo III. He welcomed every opportunity to challenge himself and stay active, whether through working out, fishing, cooking, gardening, or experiencing the joys of fatherhood.
A master in the kitchen, Elijah’s specialty was cooking—especially steaks, with the tomahawk cut being his absolute favorite. His self-taught culinary skills were evident in the way he expertly matched seasonings to each dish, always striving for perfection. Cooking became a passion he shared with his loved ones, leaving lasting memories with every meal.
Known for his tender heart and adventurous spirit, Elijah loved to travel and explore new places. He found peace and excitement during fishing trips to the Sahara Wood State Recreation area. His enthusiasm extended to boxing and MMA, where he frequently engaged in lively discussions about fighting styles, fishing, and his children with those around him.
Elijah shared an extraordinary bond with his mother, Cindy, as her firstborn. They were best friends for twelve years, united by their mutual love for cooking and food. When his brother Roman arrived, Elijah became his devoted protector and companion, building a relationship that flourished despite their 12-year age difference. Together, they enjoyed cooking, basketball, working out, and fishing, creating memories that will be cherished forever.
Elijah’s playful nature was most evident in his role as a father. He delighted in playing games with his children, often carrying them on his shoulders and embracing the joys of being a “big kid.” He believed in discipline rooted in compassion and understanding, always striving to be a fun and loving dad.
As a Harrisburg Bulldog from 2011 to 2015, Elijah accomplished numerous athletic feats, further cementing his place in the community’s history:

One super sectional championship
2013 Class 2A State Champion
First player to win four consecutive Eldorado Holiday Tournament championships

Elijah was a quirky, joyful presence, bringing laughter and warmth wherever he went. His love for watching sports and sharing moments with his children was a hallmark of his character. He leaves behind a legacy of memories, delicious meals, and unconditional love that will continue to inspire those who knew him.
Elijah will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all whose lives were touched by his kindness, vibrant energy, and unwavering devotion.
