Barbra Ann James, loving mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt passed away peacefully on Monday September 7, 2026, at the age of 73 at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale, in Carbondale, Illinois.

Barbra was born on January 5, 1953, in Harrisburg, Illinois to the late Edward Scott and Rosa L. (Mays) Scott. She was one of 11 children.

Barbra was a daycare teacher for many years at the Great Lakes Naval Base in northern Illinois. She later married Gary James who survives. She was a member of Abundant Life Church of Carrier Mills, Illinois for many years. Barbra enjoyed listening to music in her free time. She also was an avid Basketball and Football fan.

She leaves behind her sons; Gabe Portee of Carrier Mills, IL, Caleb (James) McKinley-Portee of Carbondale, IL, and Josh (Misty) Scott of Harrisburg, IL. 5 grandchildren; Gage Portee, Holland Wink, Hunter Scott, Layla Scott, and Devante Scott, 3 great grandchildren; Jenny Scott, Naomi Scott, and Azariah Roski. 6 sisters; Karen Scott of Los Angeles, CA, Kim Scott of Randolph, NJ, Tanya Scott of Carrier Mills, IL, Rena Scott of Los Angeles, CA, Monique Cosentio of Los Angeles, CA, Suzanne Scott of Marion, IL along with several nieces and nephews,

Barbra was preceded in death by her parents, brothers; Gene Scott and Eddie Scott, sisters; Vivica Scott and Sadie Scott and a nephew Adam Scott.

Barbra's wishes were to be cremated, entrusted to Felty Funeral Home. No memorial services have been scheduled at this time.
